How Much Will You Gain This Holiday Season?

Yikes, the boxes of candy and baked goodies are arriving daily, not to mention the party invitations. The temptation to overindulge is ever-present this time of the year, and I plan to do so. However, I am not talking about the food pyramid; I plan to partake freely from the platters that fuel a real estate agent's business.

Client Contact: Now is the perfect time to update, sort and review your database. I made several calls last week to obtain email addresses. Yes, even my 83-year-old client now has one. Make no mistake those were business calls, but it gave me an opportunity to convey a personal holiday wish. Oh, and I'll be in attendance at more than one holiday party thrown by some of my party animal clients. I'll be there with a few lots of business cards tucked into my dainty clutch.

Sharpen the Saw: I plan to spend an hour or two at the local bookstore and select two books (one business-one just for fun) to read between Christmas and New Year's Day. Fresh ideas woven in with the tried and true will have me anxious to get back to work in January.

Columbia University Business Plan: I'm at that stage of life where my children are telling me what to do-or trying to at least! My son, the Columbia MBA recipient, will be home for the holidays-fabulous!-and wants to run some spreadsheets to track my marketing results-yikes! My gain will be spending time with a son I adore even though I know I'm in for some abuse-he's a kick butt kind of guy, but he says I have to move away from the blink way of doing business. The old autopilot method of marketing needs some GenX input, or so he says.

So there you have it--my gain for the holiday will be extra time spent with clients, additional time spent improving my knowledge and expertise, and a few intense hours working on my 2008 business plan with my home grown dictator. I think I'm in for a very good time!Joy to the world ornamentGreat Expectations book
