The 1st quarter of 2009 ends in a couple of hours. As I look back over my shoulder I'm wearing a big grin of fulfillment. Oh sure, I did not make as much money as I would like, and yes, I worked harder and longer than I thought I would at this time of my life, but I also had a wonderful three months.
For the first time in my life, I took my vacation first. That's right I slipped out the country the beginning of January and traveled to Spain and then on to Egypt. I landed back in Los Angeles in late January anxious to return to my real estate work. Here is the big lesson I learned: Work does not always deserve the number one slot in the game of life. It is fun to mix it up and do the unexpected. Normally, I begin a new year with a fresh business plan and a brand new day planner. This year I started it with my passport and a passion for travel.
I've kept my business life invigorated by not only listing and selling single family homes, but branching out to list a motel, 13 acres of raw land, sold some income property, and I'm enjoying working with some 1st time buyers. Just to keep it interesting I gained a little more experience working with short sales and honed my foreclosure skills by writing a few of those offers too.
Q 2 looks promising. I have a hot new listing that is generating a lot of buzz around the neighborhood. A senior couple called this week and wants to write an offer on a little retirement villa. A developer reported he sold his out-of-state 134 units and wants information on my Needles listings on the Colorado River. Two buyers want to view property this week, a third is pondering whether to write an offer on a house I showed on Sunday.
Will it all come to fruition? Not a chance. That's the way real estate works. However, the more you have going the better your chances are of presenting a client the keys to a new house, or tucking a little cash away for your next big adventure in life.
I hope you have some exciting things planned for the next three months as we glide into spring and summer. If it includes real estate, I would be honored to be your guide as you embark on your house hunting adventure.
