I love quotes. The past couple of weeks my clients have offered up some real gems:
1. "The world is falling apart." What he really means is I don't know what to do with this property. Should we lease it? Take it off the market, or just dump it? My advice: Don't panic. Just breathe and wait until you have evaluated your options. Once the decision is made, don't waste time second guessing yourself.
2. "This economy sucks." What he really means is money is tight and I can no longer buy the property I want. I need better credit and a bigger down payment. My advice: You know what you need to do, so take action to improve your credit, and try living beneath your means until that 20% down is in the bank. Be willing to endure a little temporary pain to achieve your long-term goals.
3. "Is anything selling?" What she really means is why is my house still on the market, and what are you doing about it? My advice: Be the flame, not the moth. Entice buyers with a better price and a better product. Don't chase them, let them seek the best value and come to you.
Yes, homes are selling! Check this blog often for properties for sale, in escrow and sold in Palos Verdes neighborhoods.
4. "Is the real estate market about to touch the bottom?" What she really means is she's tired of bobbing along in the tide of uncertainty and is searching for a safe place to put her feet down--remember when you were a kid in water over your head and what a comforting sensation it was to be able to touch the bottom? My advice: I don't know where the bottom is or when we will touch it, but I do know there are some good buys and some great buyers. With persistence and professional assistance these sellers and buyers will find each other.
History is a good place to seek comfort. It is the nature of markets to rise and fall based on economic indicators. The appropriate quote to end with is, "What goes up, must come down." And vice versa.
