So What are You Doing to Stretch and Grow? - Norma Toering RE/MAX Palos Verdes

When my children were babies I delighted in watching them master new tasks. Whether it was rolling over from back to tummy or reaching out to grasp a new toy, one of my favorite things to say to them was, "Stretch and grow." Those words are very apropos for today's real estate market and the economic times.

There is a revolution happening in real estate. The way we market is changing. As much as I love Sunday morning and a big fat newspaper, print medias are struggling to survive. Real estate advertising, one of their largest sources of revenue, is shrinking at an alarming rate. Now, it is all online. The homes we are selling must be there too.

As the first quarter of 2009 comes to a close I'm somewhat pleased with the stretching and growing I've accomplished during the past couple of months. I'm working with an out of the area agent on one of my out of the area listings. I see this as a new trend since our MLS systems continue to increase their areas of coverage. My client did not want to refer the listing, he wanted to work with me because we have a worked together on many transactions and have built a foundation of trust. He has not doubt I am on his team. Perhaps familiarity and trust trump the local office location in today's age of the Internet. It does in this seller's mind.

I have an offer out on a short sale and one on a foreclosure--a sign of the times, and neither one is my niche, but stepping out of our comfort zone is the catalyst for stretching and growing as real estate professionals.

Oh yes, I've embraced the social media phenomenon too. You can find me on Facebook and Twitter, although I am still trying to find the best way to get them to embrace me--and the time to tweet and write on a friend's wall.
