Must Main Street Crumble Because Wall Street Took a Tumble?

I think not. The true strength of America is in her citizens, not her institutions. Most people are responsible, ethical and do not have golden parachutes or slush funds to pillage. They have a job, a family and a home they want to keep. New jobs, new babies, an empty nest and other life changes will continue to move the Main Street real estate market.

I plan to finish 2008 strong by doing the following:

Explore the depth of my SOI. This week a friend I met in an aerobics class in 1991 called. She's moving back to LA and we'll be looking at lofts next week!

Reminder to self: Sign up for a class. It's a great way to expand your SOI and try something new. You never know what the end result will be-maybe a new client or two.

Call all cash buyers. I was surprised at the number of investors and cash buyers in my SOI. I anticipate there will be buying opportunities galore during this 4th Quarter of 08.

Reminder to self: Contact my existing cash clients and blog to find a few new ones.

Share the good news and do not fuel the bad-news-wildfire with tales of woe-is-me. Yesterday a client sent me an email titled, The Simple Life. It contained beautiful photos of animals and nature in all their glory. It made me smile, (I'm sure my blood pressure dropped a few points too) and I was reminded my clients often reward me with random acts of kindness. I quickly thanked her for sending me on a mini-vacation with a quick email response. Today, her husband called to discuss buying an investment property.

Reminder to self: Respond to all mail, inquiries and calls in a timely manner. Provide my SOI with unexpected acts of service and information. Give back.

Prepare for a feast, not a famine. There will be new opportunities for my clients in this market. I have several buyers who were priced out of the market in 2005 -06. 2009 may be the Year of the Savvy Buyer, and I have a few I need to call.

Reminder to self: Design a business pie chart for 2009. Give myself a hefty slice of the real estate pie.

Don't despair; there will be plenty of pie in your neighborhood too, but you'll have to help make it.
