History is a harsh teacher.
The Darwinian theory of survival of the fitness applies to the business world as well as the animal kingdom. The weak, the unprepared and those without a fluid plan of survival will sink as a result of changing conditions in the environment they operate within.
It doesn't matter if you're a Canadian Goose that forgot to fly south as winter approached, a Wall Street investment firm built on a Ponzi scheme, or a real estate agent wishing and hoping for the return of the good old days of 2005, there is a natural attrition at play as the earth takes its annual spin around the sun.
I'll let the finer minds of Washington and Wall Street sort out the messy monopoly board of the winners and loser, who goes to jail and who stay on at Park Place.
As for me, I'll
(1) Tighten my business belt one more notch. I hear waists are making a comeback in 09.
(2) Venture outside my comfort zone to expand my business in a shrinking market. Going to work should be an adventure and expanding experience, right?
(3) Embrace the daily challenge of making sure the service I provide not only meets my clients' needs, but utilizes the changing tools of the trade.
