I'm Beginning to Like This Slower Real Estate Market by Norma Toering REMAX Palos Verdes

I met a client for lunch recently at a very popular spot for the agents who lunch in years past. As I looked around the restaurant I did not see a single agent. Hmmm, where have all the long lunches and Chardonnay mid-day meets gone? Better still, where are those agents and what are they doing now? The burning question is will they reappear in real estate when the sizzle returns to the housing market?

Being a real estate agent in a slow market is hard work. The fun factor drops a notch or two. The hours are long and the transactions are more difficult. Bank-owned properties and short sales require more effort and take longer to close than a standard sale. No one said this would be easy. It is business and when there is less of it, you must work harder and smarter to get your slice of the sales.

A less crowded playing field allows those still in the game to see more clearly. New opportunities open as more agents walk away to something better for them and leave their real estate career behind. Their farms remain barren and waiting for cultivation. During the slow market I added a neighborhood of 150 homes to my SOI after the long-dominate agent stopped working the area. I've sold several homes in the area, but never had a listing. That is no longer the case. I'm thankful for opportunities the slow market created.

Thanks to the slow market I dicovered Active Rain, learned how to market my listings effectively online, became a regular blogger, and enlarged my sphere of influence. I think I'm beginning to like this slow market.
