Granddaughters, Life Lessons and Listing Appointments - Norma Toering REMAX Palos Verdes Realty

My ten year old granddaughter is running for student council president of Vista Grande Elementary School in Rancho Palos Verdes. My conversation with my daughter was cut short tonight because she needed to listen to the candidate's speech. Life really is about priorities and I often learn wonderful life lessons from my children, and now their children.

See, the first time my granddaughter ran for office, she lost--by only a few votes, but someone else got the job, the honor and the win. The principal gave the results to the candidates and she related my daughter's daughter lost by the slimmest of margins, but she immediately turned to the winner and gave her a congratulatory hug. No pouting, no whining, no tears. Isn't that what life requires of us when there is a setback, a disappointment, a loss?

What does this have to do with real estate? I went on a listing presentation this week. Other agents are competing for the seller's signature on the listing agreement. I will try to be as gracious as my granddaughter when I receive the news. If another agent receives the listing I will substitute a handwritten note for the congratulatory hug.

My granddaughter is running for office again, and win or lose she is an excellent role model for her grandmother.

Frolicking at the neighborhood beach in Palos Verdes Estates with the lovely granddaughter!
